About Peace Building September 16, 2008

Peacebuilding is different from “peacemaking” and “peacekeeping” in that it focuses on creating a long-term culture of peace, rather than solving existing conflicts or preventing old ones from re-occurring. Peacebuilding activities aim at building understanding and tolerance between individuals, communities and societies and establishing new structures of cooperation. Peacebuilding activities range in scale from personal acts of kindness toward others to global inter-governmental programs.
Definitions of Peacebuilding

“Where there is peace, there is culture; where there is culture, there is peace.”

–Nicholas Roerich
Marking every year by United Nations, the upcoming 21th-September is a day when individuals, communities, nations and governments highlight efforts to end conflict and promote peace.
Plan a Peace Day Event!
Each year, events take place all around the world for the International Day of Peace. Every Peace Day event provides an opportunity to inspire individuals and empower communities to celebrate victories for peace that have been won throughout the year, and to rededicate our commitment to work for a more peaceful, just and sustainable world all year long.
A Peace Day event can be as simple as lighting a candle or meditate on Peace on September 21. It can be as complex as organizing a Peace Concert for thousands of people. In between, there is a whole scale of events on different levels that might fit your family, group, class, or community.
Be seen. Be visible. Let the world know you care about peace.
